With more than 25 years' experience at large law firms and in-house, Jim Boeckman is a business lawyer who combines "BigLaw" experience with an in-house perspective to provide cost-efficient, responsive and high-quality legal support to clients of all types and sizes.
Boeckman works with emerging to mid-sized clients on general business, corporate, contracts and other general counsel-type work. His clients include technology, energy, new media, consulting, health care, fitness and manufacturing companies. Boeckman has lived and worked in a number of settings outside the U.S., and applies those experiences when dealing with international business matters, including helping clients navigate cross-cultural issues in their business deals.
Prior to founding his solo law practice in Austin in 2008, he worked as general counsel of a mid-cap high-tech manufacturing company with operations in Europe, Asia and the U.S.; a "BigLaw" partner and associate in Dallas and Austin; and regional counsel in Asia Pacific for a major IT services company.
Commerciality and collaboration are the touchstones of Boeckman's law practice. He brings an experienced commercial orientation, including common sense advice, to every project. His objective is to collaborate with his clients based on an in-depth understanding of each client's business circumstances, goals and risk tolerances.
Through his consulting practice, Right-Tasking Consulting Services (www.Right-Tasking.com), Jim works with General Counsels and their teams to optimize the sourcing and cost of their outside counsel, and to improve their law department operations, in order to boost the value of their legal spend. His Boosting Legal Value blog on legal expense management and related issues is followed by in-house leaders throughout the nation, and can be found at www.Right-Tasking.com/blog.
